The Punjab Subordinate Services Selection Board (PSSSB) has published Advertisement No. 07/2025 for the recruitment of a total of 500 positions in the Prison Department, including 451 Jail Warders, 29 Assistant Superintendents, and 20 Matrons
Educational Qualification
- Jail Warder & Matron: Candidates must have passed 10+2 (Intermediate or equivalent) from a recognized board, and must have studied Punjabi either as a compulsory or elective subject at the Matriculation (10th) level
- Assistant Superintendent: A Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized university is required
Age Limit (as on January 1, 2025)
- Jail Warder & Matron: 18 to 27 years
- Assistant Superintendent: 21 to 37 years
- Age relaxations are available per state government norms: SC/ST, BC, EWS, ex‑servicemen, and government servants may get additional years, generally up to 32 or more depending on category

Selection Process
Candidates must qualify the following stages:
- Written Examination: Paper 1 covers General Knowledge, Basic Law, Quantitative Ability, Reasoning, Digital Literacy, English & Punjabi language (120 marks, 100 minutes).
- Paper 2: Punjabi language qualifying paper (50 marks, 60 minutes)
- Physical Measurement Test (PMT) and Physical Efficiency Test (PET): Includes height, chest, weight requirements and running, shot put, rope climbing depending on post & gender.
- Document Verification and Medical Fitness Test for final selection
