In early July 2025, the Indian Coast Guard issued a notification inviting applications for 170 Assistant Commandant positions in the General Duty (GD) and Technical (Engineering/Electronics) streams
The recruitment is for the 01/2027 batch, targeting candidates ready for induction under Group โAโ Gazetted Officer roles.
Eligibility & Qualifications
Only Indian nationals are eligible.
General Duty (GD): Bachelorโs degree with a minimum of 60% aggregate, and Physics and Mathematics at the 10+2 level.
Technical branch: B.Tech / B.E. in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Naval Architecture, Marine, or related disciplines, with 60% aggregate, and Physics & Maths at +2 level or equivalent, including diploma holders with those subjects

Age Limit: 21โ25 years as of 1 July 2026, i.e. born between 1 July 2001 and 30 June 2005, with standard age relaxations for SC/ST (5 years), OBC (3 years), and serving personnel in armed forces (5 years) .

Selection Process
Candidates will undergo a five-stage selection:
CGCAT โ Objective test (English, Reasoning, Science, GK).
Preliminary Selection Board (PSB) โ Cognitive tests and PPDT.
Final Selection Board (FSB) โ Psychological tests, group tasks, interview.
Medical Examination.
Induction Training via Naval Orientation Course, followed by commissioning

Career & Pay Scale
Selected Assistant Commandants receive a starting basic pay of โน56,100 (Level 10) under the 7th CPC, with promotions progressing up to โน2,25,000 at senior ranks
